If you want to send SMS to any GSM phone in the world you may be
interesting in a more stable service than a free sms gateway.
Take a look at 50sms Using an online SMS gateway, is usually less expensive than sending directly from your mobile phone, and you also have the big advantage of typing it much faster. However, such service is mostly recommended for bulk actions or for using them with scripts for automatical processes such as new email notification by SMS(you have to be careful with spam in this case, otherwise you may get too many fake notifications). |

Sometimes it is easier to send SMS by Email to sms, like automatic sending
of SMS from server whenever a predefined event occurs. (Example: the database server is down, you have a script which checks for it using crontab every five minutes, and whenever it goes down you get imediate notification by SMS so you can fix it asap) Check out smscountry for details. |

GaimSMS is a gaim plug-in which sends incoming IMs to a SprintPCS mobile telephone number when the user is afk. There is a possibility that the plugin will forward SMS messages to users on other GSM networks, but this hasn't been tested yet. Future releases will probably allow sending SMS messages to all networks. LinSMS allows sending SMS to Spanish mobile phones from Linux. gtkSMS is a small application which allows sending many SMS. It includes a phone book and uses a program called 'sms' as a backend. Unfortunately there is no english version yet. pyWebSMS is a program that lets you send SMS through the Internet without opening a browser. You can send many SMS, save your contacts, view the history, and more. It's completely modular, so you can add/remove providers or you can make your own module for your provider in Python. |
